OpenAny Privacy Policy
The short version
OpenAny does not collect, share or sell any information about you. It has no account, no ads and no tracking, and it does not upload your files. The files you open stay on your device.
What OpenAny does with your files
OpenAny opens files such as archives, PDFs, Word and Excel documents, pictures and books. When you choose a file, or send one to OpenAny from Files, Mail or another app, OpenAny reads it on your device and shows you what is inside. Nothing is sent over the internet.
To do that, OpenAny makes a private working copy inside the app's own storage on your device. The copy is used only to show the file. It is removed automatically after 3 days, and you can remove all of them at any time in the app (Settings, then Saved copies, then Remove saved copies). Your original file is never changed.
When you sign or fill in a PDF, sign a Word document (which OpenAny turns into a PDF on your device first), or edit a picture, OpenAny saves the result as a new copy and leaves the original alone. Where that copy goes is up to you: you pick the place in the iOS share sheet or the Files app.
What stays on your device
To work the way you left it, OpenAny keeps a small amount of information on your device only. It is never sent anywhere.
- Recent files: copies of up to 10 files you opened lately (up to 200 MB in total), so you can open them again quickly. They stay until you remove them.
- Settings and reading positions: your language, text size, Easy Mode choice, zoom, sort order, and where you stopped reading.
- Signatures: signatures you choose to keep, and the name you typed for signing. They are stored in a protected area of the app, locked by iOS while your device is locked, and are left out of iCloud and computer backups. If you set up a new device, you will need to create them again.
- Unsaved changes to a PDF: a draft, so you can pick up where you left off. It is kept in the same protected way.
Deleting OpenAny removes all of this.
Passwords
When a file is protected, you type its password into OpenAny. The password is used on your device to open that file. It is not saved to storage and is not sent anywhere. Passwords for archives are forgotten when you quit the app.
Information we collect
None. OpenAny does not collect:
- personal information, contact details or identifiers,
- your files, or their contents, names or details,
- usage data, analytics or crash reports,
- your location,
- advertising identifiers.
Because we hold no information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side.
Tracking and advertising
OpenAny contains no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics or software kits. It does not build a profile of you. It is free, has no subscription and sells nothing inside the app.
Permissions
OpenAny does not ask for access to your photos, contacts, location, camera, microphone or notifications. It can only see files that you choose, or send to it. If you use a photo of your signature, the iOS picture picker gives OpenAny only the picture you select.
Links, sharing and email
- Links inside documents. If you tap a web link in an HTML, Markdown, EPUB or Word document, OpenAny asks first. If you agree, the link opens in Safari or your default browser, and that app's privacy policy applies. A web link inside a PDF is handled by iOS's own PDF viewer, which may open it in Safari straight away.
- Sharing and saving. When you share or save a file from OpenAny, it goes where you send it through the iOS share sheet, and only when you choose to. The app you share to has its own privacy policy.
- Contact Support. This opens your own Mail app with a draft that includes the app version, your iOS version and your device model. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and the message travels through your mail account, not through OpenAny.
Web pages that load online content
When you open an HTML file, OpenAny shows it with scripts switched off and blocks images, styles and other files that the page tries to load from the internet. In the viewer for HTML pages you can choose to allow that online content for the page you are looking at (the option is called Allow Internet Pictures; the confirmation box that opens when you switch it on has a button called Allow Remote Content: it is the same option). The option is off by default, it asks you to confirm, and it is not shown in Easy Mode. If you allow it, your device asks the servers that host those files for them, and those servers can see that you opened the page and your IP address. OpenAny does not receive or keep anything from that exchange.
Apple and the App Store
Downloading an app involves Apple. Apple may give developers summary statistics, such as the number of downloads, and, if you chose to share them on your device, anonymous crash information. That comes from Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. It does not identify you, and OpenAny adds nothing to it.
Children
OpenAny collects no information from anyone, including children under 13. It shows only the files that the person using it chooses to open.
Security
Your files stay on your device, so they are protected by your device: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and the encryption iOS provides. OpenAny does not weaken or bypass any of it.
Changes to this policy
If OpenAny ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated before the change reaches you, and the effective date above will change. The "App Privacy" section of the App Store page always describes the current version of the app.
