OpenAny Support
OpenAny opens the files your iPhone can't: ZIP, RAR and 7z archives, PDFs you can sign, Word and Excel files, pictures, books and more. It is free, works offline and keeps your files on your device.
Need help? Write to kofiv24@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 2 working days, in English or Arabic. Please include what is listed under "Report a problem" below, so the first reply can be an answer.
Getting started
- Open OpenAny and tap Open a File. Choose a file from the Files app.
- OpenAny works out what the file is and shows it.
- Read it, sign it, or save what you need. Tap Back to return. Files you opened lately are listed on the first screen under Recent Files.
Your original file is never changed. OpenAny works on a private copy and saves any result as a new file.
Can't see a button this page mentions? Easy Mode hides the advanced buttons. Open Settings from the first screen and turn Easy mode off to see every tool.
How to open a file from a chat app, Mail or Safari
For example, a document someone sent you in WhatsApp:
- In the chat, tap the file so it opens in a preview.
- Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up).
- Look for OpenAny in the row of apps. If it isn't there, scroll the list of actions below it for Copy to OpenAny, or scroll the row to the end and tap More.
- OpenAny opens the file straight away.
Another way that always works: in the share sheet tap Save to Files. Then open OpenAny, tap Open a File and choose it from Files.
- Mail: press and hold the attachment, tap Share, then choose OpenAny (or Copy to OpenAny).
- Safari and other browsers: after a download finishes, tap the download icon, then the file, then Share. Or find it in the Files app under Downloads.
- Files: press and hold the file, tap Share, and choose OpenAny.
How to open a Word file
- Send the .docx or .doc file to OpenAny (see the section above), or tap Open a File and choose it from Files.
- OpenAny opens it in Page view: the document as pages, the way it looks on a computer. Pinch to zoom.
- Is the text too small? Use the switch above the bottom bar to go to Reading view. It shows big, easy text that fits the screen. The Text Size button changes how big.
- To search tap Search. To jump to a heading tap Contents.
- To sign the document tap Sign. OpenAny makes a PDF of it on your device and opens the signing screen (see How to sign a PDF). To share it without signing, tap Send as PDF.
Arabic and other right-to-left text is shown right to left, and Arabic mixed with English keeps its order. Very long or complicated documents can look different from how they look in Word. If one looks wrong, switch to Reading view, which always shows the text, and tell us about it (see "Report a problem").
Unzip a ZIP, RAR or 7z file
- Open the archive with OpenAny (see above). You see the folders and files inside, with their sizes.
- To read one file, tap it. It opens without unpacking the rest.
- To keep files, tap Save All to save everything, or tap Choose Files, tick the files you want and save only those. To save one folder, open it and tap Save Folder.
- In the screen that appears, choose Save to Files and pick where it should go.
OpenAny opens ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR, GZ, BZ2 and XZ files.
How to sign a PDF
- Open the PDF in OpenAny and tap Sign.
- Make your signature: Sign with your finger, Type My Name, or use a Photo of My Signature (a photo of it on white paper). Tap Use.
- Drag the signature to the right place. Pull the round handle, or pinch, to change its size. Next signature spot jumps to the next line that needs one.
- The signature belongs on another page? With the signature selected, open Options and choose Move to Page… (or Move to Next Page). It is just as good as dragging, and easier if dragging is hard.
- To add the date, your initials, your name, text, a check mark or a cross, tap More fields. Fill in form fields by tapping them.
- Tap Save a Copy, then tap Share to choose where to keep it or who to send it to.
Your original PDF is not changed. The signed file is a copy.
Good to know: OpenAny puts a picture of your signature on the page, like the Markup tool in Preview. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so it can't prove who signed or whether the file changed afterwards. If an office asks for a certified digital signature, ask them which tool they accept.
Choose to keep your signature on this device and OpenAny will remember it, locked while the phone is locked and left out of backups. If you set up a new phone from a backup, make it again.
Rotate, move or delete PDF pages
- Open the PDF and tap Organize Pages.
- Tap a page, then choose Rotate Left, Rotate Right, Move Earlier, Move Later, Duplicate, Delete or Insert Blank Page After. You can also pull pages out as a new PDF with Extract as New PDF.
- You can undo a change until you close the screen. Then save a copy.
Excel and CSV: zoom, search and sort
- Zoom: pinch the table, or tap Zoom for the bigger and smaller buttons and Fit to Screen.
- Search: tap Search and type a word or a number.
- Sort: tap Sort and choose a column. Clear Sort puts the rows back.
- Sheets: a workbook with several sheets has a Sheets button to switch between them.
- With Easy Mode off, More also has Keep Top Row in View, so the headings stay on screen as you scroll.
Password-protected files
| Kind of file | What happens |
|---|---|
| ZIP | OpenAny asks for the password and opens the files. This works for the usual ZIP passwords (the older kind and AES). |
| OpenAny asks for the password and opens the PDF. If you sign it, the copy keeps the same password. | |
| Word and Excel | OpenAny asks for the password and opens the document. |
| RAR and 7z | OpenAny can't open files that are protected with a password in these two formats, and when the whole archive is locked it can't show the file names either. Open them on a computer, or ask the sender for a ZIP. |
When a file has a password, OpenAny shows a box that asks for it: type it and tap Unlock. If the password is wrong, the box stays open so you can try again. The password is used on your device only to open the file. It is not saved or sent anywhere. A forgotten password can't be recovered, by us or by anyone else.
Why a file won't open
- The download was cut short. A file that stopped downloading halfway is damaged. Download or send it again.
- The file is damaged. OpenAny says so and shows what it could read. Ask the sender for a new copy.
- It has a password. See the table above. Make sure you typed it exactly, including capital letters.
- The password protection is not supported. RAR and 7z passwords, and books protected by copy protection (DRM), can't be opened.
- Not enough space. Big files need free space on your iPhone while they are open. Free some space and try again (see "Where are my files").
- It is a web link, not a file. OpenAny opens files, not links. Save the file first, then open it.
- It is a program, not a document. Files such as .exe, .apk or installers are made for other devices. OpenAny can only show what is inside them as technical text.
- The letters look strange. See the Arabic note in "How to change the language". Tapping Fix Strange Letters on a text file tries another way of reading the letters.
- It opens somewhere else but not here. Write to us with the details below. We'll look at it.
How to change the language
OpenAny speaks English and Arabic. The first time you open it, it asks which one you want. To change it later:
- On the first screen, tap Settings.
- Under Language, tap English or العربية.
The whole app changes at once, with no restart. In Arabic everything is mirrored for reading from right to left. Windows that iOS draws itself, such as the Files picker, follow your iPhone's own language (Settings > General > Language & Region).
Arabic text looks like strange symbols
Very old text and CSV files from older programs were not saved in the modern Unicode format, so Arabic letters can appear as symbols. In the program that made the file, save it again as UTF-8 (in Excel, choose "CSV UTF-8"), then open it again.
Easy Mode and bigger text
Easy Mode gives you bigger buttons, larger text and plain words, and hides the advanced buttons so there is less to look at. It is on when you first install OpenAny. To turn it off or on, tap Settings on the first screen and use the Easy mode switch.
To change the size of the text, open Settings and choose Text Size: Standard, Large, Extra Large or Maximum. Until you choose a size, OpenAny uses Large or your iPhone's own text size, whichever is bigger (Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size).
Where are my files? Free up space
- To open a file OpenAny makes a private working copy. These copies are removed automatically after 3 days.
- The 10 files you opened most recently are kept (up to 200 MB) so you can open them again quickly.
- To remove everything OpenAny stored, open Settings, go to Saved copies and tap Remove saved copies. Your original files are not affected.
- Files you saved from OpenAny are in the place you chose, usually the Files app.
Privacy
OpenAny has no account, no ads and no tracking, and it does not upload your files. Everything happens on your device, and it works without internet. Read the full policy: https://openany-app.pages.dev/privacy_policy_en.html.
Cost
OpenAny is free to download. It has no ads, no subscription and no in-app purchases.

Report a problem
Write to kofiv24@gmail.com and tell us:
- your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version (Settings > General > About),
- the OpenAny version (open the app, then Settings, and look at the bottom),
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened,
- the kind of file and roughly how big it is. Attach the file only if it holds nothing private. Otherwise just describe it.
Inside the app, Contact Support prepares an email with the app version and your device details already filled in. Nothing is sent until you press Send.
Ideas are welcome too. Write "Idea" in the subject. We read every message, though not every idea can ship, because OpenAny aims to stay simple, fast and calm.
